มโหสถจึงได้เริ่มดำเนินการตามแผนของตนทันที ลำดับนั้น มโหสถได้เรียกพวกช่างไม้ซึ่งเป็นคนของตนมาช่วยกันรื้อบันไดเก่าออก แล้วให้ปูลาดแผ่นกระดานใหญ่ตรงบริเวณที่กำหนดจะให้เป็นปากอุโมงค์ ครั้นตรึงกระดานนั้นจนแน่นหนาดีแล้ว ก็ให้พาดบันไดตามเดิม แต่ให้ก่ออิฐโบกปูนจนแน่นหนา กระทั่งมั่นใจได้ว่าแข็งแรงทนทาน และไม่มีทางพังทลายลงมาง่ายๆ
